Frequently Asked Questions

How is the length calculated?

We use a proprietary consumption factor based on cord diameter (275, 550, or 750). The snake knot consumes roughly 1.4x to 2.2x of the finished length per strand. We then apply your requested color ratio and buffer percentage to ensure you have enough cord for splicing and termination.

Why should I add a safety buffer?

Cordage estimation is an art, not an exact science. Variations in tension, knot tightness, and the complexity of the finish (e.g., sewing ends vs. melting) require extra material. A 10-15% buffer is standard practice to avoid running out of cord mid-project.

Which cord size should I select?

Select the size that matches your actual cordage. 550 Paracord is the industry standard (approx. 4mm). 275 cord is thinner (approx. 2mm) and 750 cord is thicker (approx. 4.5mm). Choosing the correct size is critical for accurate length estimation.
