The simulation shows expanding wavefronts. When the source moves towards the observer, the waves are compressed (shorter wavelength = higher frequency). When moving away, waves are stretched (longer wavelength = lower frequency). If source velocity exceeds sound speed, shockwaves (sonic boom) occur.
