Wort Chill Time & Cooling Estimator
A thermodynamic approximation tool for homebrewers to estimate cooling timelines based on equipment and environment.

Estimated Cooling Time
Performance Insight
Adjusting your chilling equipment and input temperatures will update your estimated cooling time instantly.
How to use this estimator
1. Select your units using the toggle at the top of the input card.
2. Input your batch volume to calculate the thermal mass.
3. Select your equipment. Note that plate chillers typically have much higher surface area contact than immersion coils, resulting in faster cooling.
4. Adjust temperatures. The "Starting Wort Temp" is usually boiling (~100°C/212°F). Adjust the "Groundwater Temp" based on your local tap water temperature (which varies significantly by season).
5. Read the estimate. This tool provides a mathematical approximation based on physics; real-world factors like flow rate, tubing length, and mixing/agitation will cause variations.
