The Math
Internal Resistance (IR) is calculated as: (Resting Voltage - Load Voltage) / Current. Higher IR means your battery converts more energy into heat rather than thrust, leading to reduced flight times and potential safety risks.
Warning Signs
If your battery feels excessively hot after a flight or shows "puffy" cells, IR is likely high. Replace cells that consistently exceed 20mΩ, as they become fire hazards under high discharge loads.
Best Practices
Always store your LiPos at "storage voltage" (3.80V–3.85V per cell) when not in use. This preserves chemical stability and prevents the electrolyte breakdown that increases internal resistance over time.
